Monday

Have you ever felt like you were running from something — guilt, a broken relationship, a mistake you can't undo — and you weren't quite sure where to go?

Today's Scripture: "The cities shall be for you a refuge from the avenger... that the manslayer who kills any person without intent may flee there." — Numbers 35:12

Reflection:

In ancient Israel, God established six cities of refuge — safe places where someone who had caused another's death could flee while a fair trial was arranged. Without them, the grieving family would have every right to pursue immediate justice, and blood feuds could tear entire communities apart.

But these cities weren't just a legal workaround. They were a picture of something far deeper.

The Hebrew word for "avenger of blood" is Goel — the same word Scripture uses for redeemer. In Sunday's sermon, we explored how this ancient law quietly points to the gospel itself. We are all guilty. We've all broken God's law in ways we can't undo on our own. And yet, when we come running — not away from God, but toward Him — we don't find condemnation waiting. We find a Redeemer.

Jesus is our city of refuge. He is the safe place where guilt is met with grace, where the truth of what we've done is fully known and fully forgiven. The price has already been paid. The cross was the verdict, and mercy won.

You don't have to keep running from God. You can run to Him.

Today's Application: Take a moment this morning to honestly name one thing you've been running from — a failure, a fear, a guilt. Then, in prayer, take one step toward God with it instead of away.

A Closing Thought: The city of refuge was always open. So is the grace of Jesus. He already knows what you're carrying, and He's already made a way.
