The Man Who Kept Going From His Deathbed

We've been building toward something all week. Today, let's see what it actually looks like when someone refuses to settle — even when every earthly reason says they should.

Today's Scripture: "Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master." — Matthew 25:23

Reflection:

Here’s the story of a man named Bruce.

Bruce was on his deathbed. He needed a heart transplant and was struggling to recover. At one point, his heart stopped. The doctors resuscitated him. And in that moment between life and death, Bruce says he had a conversation with Jesus — who told him he wasn't done yet. More people needed to hear the gospel.

So Bruce kept going.

Not from a stage. Not from a position of health and strength. From a hospital bed, from recovery rooms, from wherever he found himself. If you asked Bruce how he was doing, you'd probably end up hearing about Jesus before the conversation was over.

Here's what strikes me about Bruce's story in light of Reuben and Gad: Reuben and Gad had every earthly reason to stay put. Bruce had every earthly reason to rest. And yet both stories point to the same truth — God isn't finished with us until he says he's finished.

Your circumstances don't determine your mission. Jesus does.

Maybe you're in a hard season right now. Maybe you feel like you don't have much to offer. Bruce's story says otherwise. The question isn't whether you have enough. The question is whether you're still willing.

Today's Application: Think of one person in your life who is still "on the other side of the river." Say their name out loud today and pray for one opportunity to point them toward Jesus.

A Closing Thought: You don't have to be at full strength to be faithful. You just have to be willing. God will handle the rest.
