What if the hardest season of your life was also the one that changed you most?
Today's Scripture: "The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip." — Genesis 32:31
Reflection:
Jacob got his blessing. He also got a limp.
He didn't walk away from that night at the Jabbok River the same man who arrived. He walked away changed — permanently, visibly changed. Every step for the rest of his life would carry the memory of the night he refused to let go of God. And somehow, that limp wasn't a defeat. It was the mark of a man who had met God face to face and lived.
This is what transformation actually looks like. It's rarely clean. It doesn't always feel triumphant in the moment. Sometimes it feels like a hip out of socket at three in the morning, confused and exhausted, holding on because you don't know what else to do.
But here's what the story of Jacob — the liar, the cheater, the heel-grabber — tells us: God doesn't wait for us to have it all together before He meets us. He meets us in the wrestling. He meets us in the desperate, middle-of-the-night moments when we finally stop running and say, I'm not letting go until something changes.
And through that process, He gives us a new name. A new identity. Not based on what we were, but on what He's making us into.
Today's Application: Think of a struggle you've been through — or are in right now — that God has used (or could use) to shape you. Thank Him today for the ways He meets us in the mess, not just on the other side of it.
A Closing Thought: Your limp might be the very thing that tells the story of how God changed you. Don't be ashamed of it.
