Don't Let Go Until You're Blessed

Have you ever come across something in the Bible that made you want to quietly close the book and move on?

Today's Scripture: "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed." — Genesis 32:28

Reflection:

Jacob was not a good man by most measures. His name literally meant "deceiver" — and he lived up to it. He cheated his brother, manipulated his father, and spent years running from the consequences. And yet, in the middle of the night, when a mysterious man wrestled him to the ground and knocked his hip out of socket, Jacob refused to let go.

"I will not let you go unless you bless me."

That stubborn, desperate grip changed everything. God didn't reward Jacob's past behavior. He rewarded his refusal to walk away from the struggle. And in that moment, Jacob became Israel — one who wrestles with God.

Here's the truth this week's devotionals are built on: God blesses those who are willing to wrestle with the difficult parts of His Word. It's easy to stay in the comfortable chapters. It costs us something to sit with the hard ones. But it's in that honest, sometimes uncomfortable engagement that we actually grow.

Don't skip the hard parts. Don't spiritualize them into meaninglessness or ignore them entirely. Hold on. Ask your questions. God can handle them — and He rewards the ones who refuse to let go.
